Nicholas Nassim Taleb is a former option trader who is famous for his contrarian, but often right, views. After his trading career, he has been a professor at several universities and has written multiple books on uncertainty, most famous of them being “The Black Swan” (2008). Online, Taleb is a divisive figure as he often directly attacks people for their “BS”.

Why to listen to Taleb?
Smart people like Ray Dalio and Naval Ravikant consider Taleb worth listening to. I’ve come to notice that his views often provide angles missed by the common narratives. E.g. when inflation started to rise and people were searching for safety in equities and other assets like real-estate, Taleb stated the following view:

As he usually states his opinions very firmly, it makes sense to note that he is not always right (e.g. he admits initially being wrong about Bitcoin). Still, he is incredibly smart and worth listening to. You don’t have to like his demeanour to appreciate his intellect and perspectives.
What to learn from Taleb?
#thinking, #uncertainty, #probabilities, #mathematics, #contrarian
Listen to your grandmother carefully because there is deep wisdom in the practices that have been transferred from generation to generation.
